Week 2 of the Player's Champions League Heats Up!

The second week of the FC Wisconsin Player's Champions League took place on February 9, with more great matches between the mixed-age group teams.  With 2 games in the round robin complete, several teams have locked their spots in the Championship, but all the spots in the Player’s All Star Game are still up for grabs based on performances over the course of the season

Week Two: U19 Age Bracket

Team Achieve knocked off Team Aspire 5-2 to stay alive in the attempt to secure a spot in the PCL Championship.  Taylor Tabbert had a strong performance for Team Achieve, with good positioning and decision-making that helped the team dictate some extended periods of possession.  Maddie Tabor had a strong supporting effort with 2 goals that extended the lead each time that Team Aspire appeared to close the gap.

In a scoring festival, Team Develop defeated Team Unshakable 8-5.  Emma Jaskaniec lit up the scoreboard with 4 goals, all in the first half, and Rachel Dallet knocked in 3 of her own.  While falling behind early, Team Develop ultimately closed the gap to 2 goals with about 10 minutes remaining before their comeback effort fizzled.

Going into the final week of the group stage, Team Develop has clinched a spot in the final, but all 3 other teams remain alive for the final spot in the championship.

Week Two: U15 Age Bracket

Team Aspire was dominant over Team Achieve in a 5-1 win, where Dri Alberts orchestrated the game from central midfield, connecting players all over the field.  Aspire defender Sam Danzyk showed good vision to break the Achieve press with diagonal passes to the far midfielder to find space to go forward.  For Achieve, Ashley Jones showed flashes of danger, and a good understanding of timing to show for the ball playing as a #9.

Team Unshakable wouldn’t be denied in their second game, with a solid 7-4 win over Team Develop.  Elizabeth Ehlert made several well-timed runs forward out of midfield, and was rewarded with 3 goals and 2 assists.  Jamie Mohs showed a growing understanding of target play, and was able to hold play up front and allow midfielders to get into the attack on a regular basis.

The berths in the U15 final have been secured by Team Aspire and Team Unshakable, but who will claim the group stage championship, and the ultimate group placements are still to be determined in week 3

Players of the Week

U19 Age Bracket: With four goals staking her team to a commanding first half lead, Emma Jaskaniec did not leave much room for argument in the Week 2 Player of the Week.

U15 Age Bracket: By her commanding presence in midfield, and consistent ability to maintain possession individually and in combination, Dri Alberts performance stood out as the most dominant and impactful for the U15 Age Bracket, earning her well deserved Week 2 Player of the Week honors.
