Playing Colleges Before College - Spring Team Plays UW-Whitewater

On May 3, a mixed FC Wisconsin Eclipse Spring Team played 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament Participant UW-Whitewater in a friendly competition on the Whitewater campus.  With a mix of U15s, U16s, and U17s, the Spring Team played well and created multiple chances in a victory against a Whitewater program that finished the 2013 season ranked #19 in the country in NCAA Division III.

"For our young players to get the opportunity to play against college players that are 3-6 years older than them is a fantastic learning experience," said Staff Coach Vito Parente.  "Seeing that they can successfully compete against these players, and have the majority of possession in the game, is a great confidence builder."

The UW-Whitewater game marked the end of formal competition for the Spring Program teams.  The players will continue to train and play informal friendlies over the next several weeks to continue their development and to prepare for the ECNL National Play-Offs in Seattle, WA in June.

"In every game of the spring season, we changed the rosters to mix up players," said Director of Coaching Christian Lavers.  "Players were constantly learning to play with different teammates, they were played in a variety of positions, and almost 50% of the roster in every game consisted of players that were playing up at least one age group.  These are all tremendous developmental opportunities for the players, and they have responded really well to the challenges presented to them."
