Great Moments in Week 3 of the Players' Champions League

Week 3 of the Player's Champions League had some great moments of play as teams battled to reach the PCL Championship next week.

Team Game Changers v Team Develop (8-6)

It was a clichéd game of two halves as Team Game Changers took on Team Develop in game 1 of the third round of the Players' Champions League.  Team Game Changers raced to 5-1 lead after only 20 minutes,as Team Develop struggled to get to grips in midfield. Aryssa Mahrt once again provided the offensive spark, scoring twice and assisting on goals for Lauren Davis and Dri Alberts. The break came at the right time for Team Develop, and with some defensive adjustments and a change in team shape they were able to get a foothold in the game. Two goals from Rachel Dallet brought Develop to within three, and the comeback was on.  As period two ended and period three began, Team Game Changers had no answer for Team Develop’s relentless pressure, and two more goals from Dallett, andand one from Emily Ehlert leveled the game at 6-6. Audrey Poorman put Team Develop ahead for the first time in the game with 5 minutes to go before Dallet’s 5th of the game finished the scoring and an 8-6 win for Team Develop.

Team Aspire v Team Achieve (11-0)

The second game of the day was one-sided as a hot streak for Team Aspire caught Team Achieve at an uncharacteristic and difficult moment.  Team Achieve, who were missing some important players, did create some good possession and a few chances that they were unable to capitalize on - but on the balance of the day Team Aspire was dominant.  Elizabeth Ehlert and Marisa Grzesiak started the game well for Team Aspire, scoring and assisting on a pair of early goals as they raced to a 3-0 lead after the first period. Emma Jaskaniec was once again heavily involved in the goals with 3 goals and 4 assists on the day. Caitlin Shilling added a hatrick of her own, along with another goal each for Ehlert, Grzesiak, and Amara Thompkins. In addition to the goalscorers, Haley Johnson held the ball up well and was a strong foil for Jaskaniec and Shilling. For Team Achieve, Nicole Norfolk battled constantly in an unfamiliar midfield role, and Annika Seem played well throughout.  Quinlan Warren made some great saves, with Maria Nordness battling hard in defense, but they were unsuccessful in stemming the tide.  Ultimately the attacking power of Team Aspire was too great and they ran out deserved winners.
