FC Wisconsin Eclipse Take Six Points Against Sockers FC - Chicago

The second round of ECNL games for FC Wisconsin Eclipse ended with split results against Sockers-FC - Chicago.  The FC Wisconsin Eclipse U14 lost a tough game 1-3, the U15 team was dominant with a 4-1 win, the U16 team won a close match 1-0, and the U17s dropped a difficult 0-3 decision in the last game of the day.

"Overall, it was a good step forward for the teams," said Christian Lavers.  "The players really showed that they are embracing the principles this club stands for - work hard to defend, win the head ball battle, and share the ball aggressively - and it is paying off in improvement every day and results on the weekend."

The U15 team was led with goals from Jen Wendling, Jess Cooley, Selena Nummerdor (U14), and Camille Davre (U14) in a strong performance featuring great energy, morale, and positive play.  "The communication between the players on the field was tremendous," said staff coach Ann Palm (Eshun).  "I was really impressed with the way the players encouraged each other, demanded things from each other and supported each other during the game."

THe U16 team won its first ECNL game of the season on a long-range strike from Danielle Sobelman in the 65th minute.  "This should be a great confidence builder for this age group," said Monica White.  "These players have put in a tremendous amount of work over the past 14 months, and to see it pay-off with a big turn-around in results from last year should show them that their sacrifices are paying off."  The leadership of Chloe Knudtsen, and solid goalkeeping from Jordyn Bloomer in key moments, helped the team secure their second straight shutout.

The U17 team rebounded well from last week's difficult loss to Sporting KC, and was scoreless in an up-and-down game mid-way through the second half.  "The team today showed they understand what it takes to be successful in this league, and that they can make the improvements necessary to get results here," said Andy Lee.  "If they continue in this direction, they will be a difficult team to play in this Conference."

The U14 team, featuring converted field players in goal after an injury to GK Jenna Gazanna this week, dropped a tough 1-3 game, but showed significant promise in the second half.  "One of the great things about this league is that we play everyone home and away," said Erin Kane.  "I am already looking forward to the U14 return leg in Chicago - and I think these players can turn this result around in October."

This weekend, the FC Wisconsin Eclipse U15-U18 teams are traveling to Phoenix, AZ to take part in the first ECNL National Event of the year.  Stay tuned for news and updates from one of the biggest college showcases in the country.
